Beasts of the Week

The best of the best performances from Playoffs: Week 4

With playoff teams dwindling this week and state semifinals and finals looming next week, here are some of the top performances from the weekend's high school football playoff action.

1. D.J. Jones, RB, Denison: The highly touted senior running back had one of his patented highlight games in Saturday's 49-35 win over Sulphur Springs to earn the Yellow Jackets a berth in the Class 4A Division II state semifinals. Jones, who will forever be remembered for his 400-something total-yard performance last year against McKinney, rushed for 168 yards on 17 carries and caught four balls for 112 yards plus found the end zone five times to lead Denison to the win.

2. Jordan Taylor, QB, Denison: Yep, top two beasts are from the same game, but you can't really argue against that. Taylor rushed for 223 yards on 25 carries and scored twice on the ground. He also completed 10 of 19 passes for 189 yards and threw for two more scores to help Denison get revenge for a playoff loss to Sulphur Springs last year.

3. Terrance Tusan, RB, Euless Trinity: Tusan carried the torch of big-time rushing performances late in the postseason as the Trojans are the only DFW team remaining in the Class 5A playoffs at either Division level. Tusan carried the ball 14 times for the Trojans and went for 185 yards while scoring three touchdowns, as Trinity rolled Arlington Bowie, 47-17.
