Beasts of the Week

The best of the best performances from Week 3

With Week 3 now in the books, we look back at an abbreviated weekend of high school football with many teams enjoying their bye week, but there were some beastly efforts to be celebrated. What BEASTS.

1. Jonovan Griffin, QB, McKinney Boyd: OK, just for full disclosure's sake, Griffin was facing an absolutely putrid McKinney defense that allowed 56 points to Sachse and 70 to Denton Ryan last week, but that doesn't take away from the McKinney Boyd QB's effort. Griffin was a one-man scoring machine on Friday night. He rushed for 330 yards on just 17 carries and scored four touchdowns. Oh, and he also tossed four touchdown passes while throwing for 304 yards. In case you haven't realized, that's eight touchdowns, the same eight that Scotty Young put on McKinney's defense last week.

2. Ryan Polite, QB, DeSoto: The junior QB is quickly making a name for himself as one of the top junior QBs in the state, and that was no different in Friday's 64-23 win over rival Duncanville. Polite decimated Duncanville's defense, throwing for four scores and a career-high 452 yards. That gives him 1,356 passing yards through four games. He's thrown 12 TDs and just four interceptions.

3. Armando Villa, DB, Rockwall-Heath: In a defensive battle with with Dallas Hillcrest, Villa was the biggest player on the field despite his small stature (5-7, 155 pounds). In Heath's 10-6 win, Villa blocked an extra point, broke up four passes and picked off two to lead the Hawks to a big win.

4. Tevin Jackson, LB, Garland: The Owls had to travel to Abilene to play a tough, hard-nosed Abilene Cooper team and thanks to Tevin Jackson they came home with a victory. The senior linebacker was a wrecking crew in the Cooper backfield, as he finished the night with 12 tackles and three sacks.

Adam Boedeker is a sports writer/award-winning blogger for the Denton Record-Chronicle. 250-plus rushing yards, complete domination and they still lose. Really??
