Battle for Arlington Supremacy Set for Tonight

Bowie, Arlington High to go at it potentially for 4-5A title

It's been a good while since Arlington Bowie has tasted defeat at the hands of a crosstown foe. Martin, check. Sam Houston, check. Lamar, check. Arlington, ch-not so fast.

The Colts have a chance to snap the Volunteers' 14-game win streak against Arlington ISD teams tonight when the teams face off at UTA's Maverick Stadium in a game which will show off to prolific offenses with different approaches.

Bowie features near-perfect balance offensively as the Volunteers are averaging 418 yards per game. Arlington, on the other hand, has one a prized recruit under center in QB Matt Joeckel, who's orally committed to Texas A&M and leads the Colts offense, which averages 484.7 yards and 42.7 points per game.

Bowie is the defending 4-5A champion, and Arlington will be looking for that title, and a win over Bowie will go a long way toward that goal.

I think the key in this game is whether Bowie's youthful defense, especially in the secondary, can contain Joeckel and his receivers in the Colts' passing game. Based off athleticism alone, my thought is they will. Prediction: Arlington Bowie 38, Arlington 31.
