    Brigetta Barrett grew up in New York but during her junior year of high school she moved to Texas to live with family and get a jump on success. She found it at Duncanville High School where she became a two-time Texas State Meet champion and set the school record of 6-1. Barrett graduated from Duncanville in 2009 and earned a scholarship to the University of Arizona.

    Barrett competed in the high jump qualifying round on Thursday morning and finished 6th with her qualifying jump at 1.93m.

    Olympic high jumper Brigetta Barrett's mother says her daughter is ready to leap for gold in London.

    Barrett breezed through the 1.75m, 1.80m, 1.85m and 1.90m. She hit the bar on her first attempt at the 1.93m, but came back strong on the second attempt.

    Barrett grew up in New York, but during her junior year in high school moved to Texas where she attended Duncanville High School. She became a two-time Texas State Meet champion, while setting the school record of 6-1. She graduated Duncanville in 2009 and currently attends the University of Arizona.

    At the Olympic Trials, Barrett finished second to American-record-holder Chaunte Lowe who also qualified for the high jump finals.
