Barrett Advances to High Jump Finals

The high jump finals are Saturday at 1 p.m. CT

Brigetta Barrett makes her Olympic debut and advances to the high jump finals.

Barrett competed in the high jump qualifying round on Thursday morning and finished 6th with her qualifying jump at 1.93m.

Barrett breezed through the 1.75m, 1.80m, 1.85m and 1.90m. She hit the bar on her first attempt at the 1.93m, but came back strong on the second attempt.

Barrett grew up in New York, but during her junior year in high school moved to Texas where she attended Duncanville High School. She became a two-time Texas State Meet champion, while setting the school record of 6-1. She graduated Duncanville in 2009 and currently attends the University of Arizona.

At the Olympic Trials, Barrett finished second to American-record-holder Chaunte Lowe who also qualified for the high jump finals.
