Area Private School Prospectus

Predicting guru releases his Top 25 rankings

Over the weekend I received an e-mail I'd been waiting a while for, one from John B. Cargal.

For those who aren't familiar, John, or "Buck" as he loves to go by, is a Texas high school football guru, who is famous for setting lines on high school football games and really setting the world on fire with his dead-on predictions for high school football across the state. He revamped his Web site this year to HuddleUpTexas.com instead of the former BuckInFootball.com.

He released his Top 25 preseason polls for every classification, including Six-Man and private, but for the sake of brevity I'm leaving out Six-Man and 1A because the DFW area is a little big for such schools.

So, we'll begin with the private school polls, in both large and small schools. These polls represent all private schools, including both TAPPS and SPC schools.

The DF-dub is well-represented in the Large Schools poll, as the top three spots belong to Dallas-area schools.

Leading the list is Addison Trinity Christian, which returns quarterback Johnny Catalano. But the real story with the Trojans is the defense, where they have eight returning starters from a unit that was already stout last year, and should be better.

At No. 2, is the TAPPS Division I defending state champion Fort Worth Nolan Catholic Vikings. They might be defending the title, but they have a lot of holes to fill even though they do return stud RB Marco Hernandez, who rushed for 1,796 yards and 15 touchdowns last year.

Checking in at No. 3 are the TAPPS Division II defending state champs, the Dallas Christian Chargers. The Chargers are coming off a perfect 14-0 record. They will be a smashmouth team with a great base to build around in Cal-commit offensive lineman Chris Adcock and running back Brandon Durham, who rushed for more than 1,500 yards and 21 touchdowns last year.
