3A Kings of DFW Well Represented on All-State Team

After taking over the tough District 9-3A, Argyle gets its recognition

District 9-3A is widely known as one of, if not the toughest 3A district in the state with perennial powerhouse Celina, last year's Class 3A Division I state champion Prosper and up-and-coming Argyle.

Well, in 2009, it was Argyle's year, as the Eagles supplanted Celina and Prosper as the kings of 9-3A with resounding wins over both teams, including one that ended Prosper's long winning streak in the district opener.

So when the Class 3A Associated Press All-State team was released on Tuesday, it was no surprise to see a bevy of Argyle Eagles on the team.

Defensive tackle/straight man-beast David Johnson, who's committed to TCU, was named to the first team, even though yours truly voted him Defensive Player of the Year, after leading an Argyle defense that gave up just 12 points per game in the regular season. And to think, he used to be a quarterback. Center Sam Forrer was also a first-team selection for Argyle, as was kicker Chad Hedlund, who was the team's starting quarterback last year and for the first part of this season before losing his job to a sophomore. But he swallowed his pride and was a huge weapon for the Eagles' offense in the kicking game.

Argyle offensive lineman Bryndyn Hinnrichs and Celina linebacker Caleb Lavey were named to the second team, as was Graham quarterback/Colt's little brother Case McCoy.
