An appeal to the University Interscholastic League filed on behalf of deposed Southlake Carroll quarterback Daxx Garman has been scheduled for Sept. 14 in Austin, according to the family's attorney Scott Adams.
Garman was declared ineligible to just hours before kickoff Friday after reports surfaced that questioned the legitimacy of his family's residency in Southlake. Garman recently transferred to Southlake from Oklahoma, where his former high school was forced to forfeit six games and its district title over issues with his residency.
The two weeks that Garman must now wait to see if he can play football for the Dragons is a lifetime away in terms of the short 10-game schedule of high school football.
While waiting for his appeal to be heard, Garman will miss two more games, including contests against non-district opponents L.D. Bell and Richardson Berkner.
Just playing the devil's advocate here, but if Garman's residency is legitimized then the process and lengthy wait for an appeal date has robbed the student-athlete of very valuable playing time -- playing time that could have been used to help secure a college scholarship -- and undoubtedly help the Dragons in their 2010 campaign. It just seems like this could be cleared up a little more quickly.
Should Garman be reinstated by the UIL, his first game back would be against Keller Fossil Ridge on Sept. 23 -- the Dragons first district game.
