Allen Meets Its $60 Million High School Football Stadium

If high school football is king in Texas, then Allen High School’s new football stadium is some kind of castle.

The 18,000-seat venue opened with the razzle-dazzle one would expect from a $60 million stadium.

“I just came in, and I’m amazed," Allen parent Olga Gavrilvic said at a special pep rally Thursday night. "You know, for a high school stadium, this rocks. What can I say?"

The new stadium is complete with an HD video scoreboard, private boxes for boosters and even a cushy press box.

“This is incredible, especially (for) the young people," parent Laura Slansky said. "They're out here practicing hard, they're sweating hard, and this is worth it to them to see how much hard work they put into it."

The stadium was funded by a $119 million bond package that voters approved three years ago.

“It's not about the money -- it's about these students and what they are getting out of this,” teacher Asenath Helvey said. "And when you see this place, you see that it's worth it."

Those of who didn't think high school football could get any bigger in Texas can think again.

“This is a really exciting thing for our entire community," Helvey said. "We can’t wait and can't wait for the first games."

Allen has sold 8,200 season tickets so far. The school opens its season at home against Southlake-Carroll on Aug. 31.
