Aikman: Charles Haley “Absolutely” Belongs in Hall of Fame

Haley is the only player in history be a part of five Super Bowl Champions

Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman believes his old teammate Charles Haley belongs in Canton as well.

Haley--who was a teammate of Aikman’s for all three of the Dallas Cowboys’ Super Bowl wins in the 1990s, and won another two Championships as a member of the San Francisco 49ers--is the only player in history to be a part of five Super Bowl Champions. Only 28 players in history have more than his 100.5 career sacks.

In 2011, Haley was inducted to the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor, but enshrinement in Canton has eluded the five-time Hall of Fame Finalist to this point. Aikman would like to see that change this year, and believes there’s a decent chance that it will.

“A bunch of us were talking about this last night, well with regards to Charles, absolutely,” Aikman told 1310-AM The Ticket this week, via the Dallas Morning News. “You’ve heard me say it before, if there’s ever a guy who’s deserving of the Hall of Fame, it’s Charles Haley. And in my opinion, and I don’t say this very often because I don’t like getting into whether guys should or shouldn’t be in, but he’s very deserving. And I’ve tried to tell as many people that who can influence the vote or even voters themselves.

“He was not only a part of five world championships, but he was a huge part as to why those teams won those championships. And apparently there’s some real momentum this year behind him. It becomes a numbers game to some degree when you’ve got guys like (Michael) Strahan and Warren Sapp and he goes in and they don’t want to take too many defensive guys or too many defensive linemen or whatever it might be. And this year seems to be setting up well where it could be his year.”
