The AT&T Byron Nelson kicked off festivities on Tuesday with an opening ceremony featuring 2015 champion Steven Bowditch.
Bowditch, 32, is back to defend his title. Other contenders include Dallas native Jordan Spieth, Matt Kuchar and Dustin Johnson.
At stake is $7.3 million.
Since 1968, Momentous Institute has been the beneficiary of the annual PGA tournament. The Byron Nelson has raised $143 million, officials said.
More than 250,000 people are expected at the Four Seasons Resort and Club in Las Colinas through Sunday, said Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne.
Irving is hosting the Byron Nelson Cup for a 34th year.
First round play begins on Thursday.
