AP Source: LSU Taps Jones as Head Coach

UNT coach played for LSU

An LSU official familiar with the decision said North Texas coach Johnny Jones would be returning to his alma mater to be the new head coach of the Tigers.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on Friday on condition of anonymity because LSU is not expected to announce the move until Monday. The official said particulars on the length and financial terms of the contract are still being wrapped up, but LSU has offered Jones the job and he has accepted.

Jones played for LSU in a Final Four in 1981 for then-coach Dale Brown and then was one of Brown's assistants with LSU's 1986 Final Four squad. Jones will replace Trent Johnson, who left LSU after four seasons to become TCU's head coach.
