Wendy Davis Wants $10 Minimum Wage Amid ‘Texas Miracle'

A call by Democrat Wendy Davis to raise the Texas minimum wage to $10 an hour as protesters nationwide demand better pay for fast-food workers is drawing criticism from business leaders.

The Texas Association of Business said Friday the plan would hurt more people than help. That response came after Davis said during a stop in her campaign for governor that she would fight to boost the minimum wage from $7.25 an hour because "this is a family issue."

On Thursday, police handcuffed dozens of people in cities nationwide during protests to get McDonald's, Burger King and others to raise wages.

Davis is facing Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott. His campaign Friday called her idea a job-killer.

Critics said the so-called economic "Texas Miracle" is propped up by low-paying jobs.
