Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison has been tagged with the dubious award of "porker of the month" by a government spending watchdog group.

Washington, D.C.-based Citizens Against Government Waste said Hutchison deserved the award because she called herself a conservative on the one hand but promoted lavish spending practices on the other. Hutchison has requested 149 projects worth $1.6 billion in the 2010 fiscal year, the group said.

Hutchison spokeswoman Jennifer Baker said Tuesday the senator was proud of the federal money she's brought to Texas. Baker added the dollars would go to other states if not for Hutchison's advocacy.
