Newly re-elected Texas House member Mike Villarreal has announced he won't serve another term because he is running for mayor of San Antonio.
Villarreal on Sunday announced he'll leave the Texas Legislature when his current term expires Jan. 13.
The Democrat from San Antonio has served seven terms in the Texas House, representing District 123. A special election is expected to be held to fill Villarreal's legislative slot.
The mayoral election is next May.
