Biden to Headline N. Texas Fundraiser

Local Republicans opt for online petition instead of public rally

Fresh off the passage of the massive health care bill, Vice President Joe Biden will make a brief stop in North Texas on Friday.

Biden is headlining a Democratic fundraiser at attorney Russell Budd's Highland Park home. The vice president was previously scheduled to visit Dallas in January but canceled because of the earthquake in Haiti.

Democratic Party insiders say they're thrilled to host Biden, especially after such a monumental victory for the Democratic Party.

“I think they did a real good job of keeping it quiet for obvious reasons,” said Dallas County Republican Chair Jonathan Neerman.

Republicans had planned to rally during Biden's visit in January but are instead urging angry citizens to voice their health care opposition on an online petition.

“Our plan was to do a public rally, but that was at a public location in Las Colinas,” Neerman said. “Here (Highland Park), it’s in a residential area so we chose not to do any rally or protest.”

Many of the details of Biden's visit are being kept secret for security reasons.
