Texas Rep. Veasey Defeats Domingo Garcia for Dem. Nomination

Veasey to face Chuck Bradley in November election

State Rep. Marc Veasey has defeated Dallas activist Domingo Garcia for the Democratic nomination for the 33rd Congressional District.

Veasey is now the heavy favorite to win the new minority district that spans central Dallas and Fort Worth. He will face Republican Chuck Bradley in November's general election.

Veasey led in the May primary vote but failed to break the 50 percent mark. The African American lawmaker representing Fort Worth fought a tough campaign against Garcia, a longtime leader in Hispanic politics.

A federal court created the new 33rd District following results of the 2010 census which showed minorities represented 89 percent of Texas' population growth. The district is made up of a majority of Hispanic voters but includes African American neighborhoods in Fort Worth.
