Texas Delegation Uniting Behind Trump at RNC Convention

The Texas delegation is not hard to find at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. There are plenty of hats and boots and Texas flag shirts to go around.

Many of them supported U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, during the Republican primaries, but they are now ready to unite behind Donald Trump as the Republican candidate for president.

"We have to unite," said Henry Childs, a Dallas delegate.

"Yes, absolutely I do. You can see it, you can feel it, you can hear it today," said Plano delegate Jody Rushton.

Former Texas Governor Rick Perry was among the speakers on the first day of the Republican National Convention.

Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry spoke Monday during the convention's opening night. The former governor urged Texans to back the Earlier in the day he met with the Texas delegates and urged them to back the nominee, even after going after Trump when he ran against him.

"After it's over with I think the wise ones go, listen, that's part of the game. We talk tough, we act tough, then we come together," Perry said.

Support from U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, was a little more lukewarm.

"I support Mr. Trump as the choice of primary voters, and to me the choice between him and Hillary Clinton could not be clearer," Cornyn said.

Texas Republican delegates are in Cleveland, where the 2016 Republican National Convention is underway Monday.

Melania Trump is the headline speaker Monday night, and Donald Trump is expected to accept the Republican nomination for president on Thursday.
