Texas Delegates Discuss Their Feelings Entering DNC

The Texas delegation, which is more than 250 strong, wants its presence known in Philadelphia.

“Is there unity in our Democratic Party? There sure is, y'all,” said Texas delegate Luciano Garza.

Unity is the theme of the day. While the majority of the room at the Texas delegation breakfast is backing Hillary Clinton, there are still holdouts for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

“By the end of the week do you see yourself supporting Hillary Clinton?” NBC 5 political reporter Julie Fine asked Arlington delegate Justin Snider. “We will see how it goes,” he answered.

Another Sanders supporter, Danny Fetonte, added, ”She has to win over the Bernie delegates to work for her.”

There has been turmoil in the Democratic Party leading up to the convention. DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz was forced to resign after email leaks showed favoritism within the party toward Hillary Clinton.

“Needless to say I’d be sitting up there lying, if I said it wasn’t a distraction,” said Texas State Sen. Royce West, D-Dallas.

“Well, I think we always see a bump after a convention for either party. Almost always. But I think the bump Hillary Clinton will get after this convention will be more than one or two percent,” said Texas State Rep. Helen Giddings, D-Dallas.

Added delegate Jackie Soliz, “Most of the time after a convention a candidate get a bump. I expect this time around Hillary will get a huge bump.”
