Attorney General Greg Abbott is objecting to the sale of an online dating service's membership list.
He argues customers should decide whether their "highly sensitive" personal information is transferred to another company.
Abbott, who is running for governor, filed a motion with a federal bankruptcy judge overseeing the sale of assets belonging to True.com to Canadian dating site PlentyOfFish.com.
The Austin American Statesman reports Abbott wants the judge to require that customers be informed of the purchase.
Set to be included in the sale are the addresses, birth dates and email addresses of True.com's 43 million members, including an estimated 2 million Texans.
A U.S. bankruptcy judge approved the sale of True.com's assets to PlentyOfFish.com in August for $700,000.
Abbott's motion will be considered during a hearing next week.
