Gov. Rick Perry has scheduled a special election to be held May 8 to fill the seat of representative Brian McCall.

After serving nearly 20 years in the Texas House of Representatives, McCall will become the chancellor of the Texas State University system.

McCall represented the areas of North Dallas, Frisco, Allen and Plano.

On his Web site, McCall expressed gratitude for the privilege of serving his constituents and for the gracious manner in which his efforts were accepted.

Candidates must file to run by 5 p.m. April 7. Early voting will run from April 26 to May 4.
