Sen. Cruz Praises Rick Perry Nomination to Energy Secretary

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz stopped by the North Texas Food Bank Thursday, where he helped pack boxes with his father and other volunteers.

"I just want to encourage folks to make a difference, volunteer in your community and help someone out who is struggling, who needs a friend, who needs some food, who just needs some love and make a difference in people's lives," Cruz said.

The Texas senator visited Dallas one day after President-elect Donald Trump designated former Gov. Rick Perry for Secretary of Energy.

Perry was governor when Cruz was elected to the Senate, and Perry even went on the road to campaign for Cruz when Cruz was running for president.

"I think it is a terrific nomination. Rick Perry was a strong governor for 14 years in the state of Texas, and I think he is going to make an excellent energy secretary," Cruz said.
