U.S. Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX 5th District) met with Donald Trump at Trump Tower Thursday morning.
Hensarling, 59, who chairs the House Financial Services Committee, has been mentioned as a possible Secretary of the Treasury.
He spoke very briefly to reporters. Hensarling said he talked with Trump about tax policy and trade.
"I stand ready to help the president in any capacity possible. I‘ve got a great position in public policy today. If he wants to talk to me, obviously about serving somewhere else, we will look at serving somewhere else. But regardless I am on his team. I am excited for what he can do for America. It was just a real honor to be here," Hensarling said before leaving.
Hensarling won reelection during the general election earlier this month, beating challenger Ken Ashby with 81 percent of the vote. Hensarling has represented the 5th district, which includes part of Dallas, Mesquite and several East Texas counties, since 2003.
