Governor asks for donations but not it's not clear for what campaign

Reporters will have to wait until July to find out if Gov. Rick Perry will run for governor or keep his name off the ballot.

But on Monday, we learned the governor is still asking for campaign donations.

For which campaign? That's not clear.

Perry sent out an email to supporters touting Texas' strong economy and "a budget that provides $1.4 billion in tax relief."

NBC 5 contacted Perry's campaign staff to ask about the email.

A spokesman told us, "The governor has said that he will announce a decision on his future political plans soon; however, regardless of his decision, as long as he is governor he will need to maintain a political office."
