Obama Congratulates Texas' Abbott in Phone Call

Governor-elect Greg Abbott has already had a few direct words for President Barack Obama: "Thank you."

An Abbott aide confirmed Thursday that the president -- whose administration Abbott has sued 30 times as state attorney general -- called the next Texas governor to congratulate him on his electoral victory.

Abbott spokesman Matt Hirsch said the phone call Wednesday night was brief and cordial. He said Abbott thanked Obama for the call and told him that he'll work to find solutions for important issues facing Texas.

Don't expect their chat to bury the hatchet. The call was among dozens Obama is making to winners of the midterm elections, and Abbott has said he's not through filing lawsuits against Washington.

Abbott defeated Democrat Wendy Davis in a landslide Tuesday night.
