Texas has enforced its Voter ID law for the first time statewide, but there isn't enough data yet to claim the law was either harmless or an affront to voters' rights.
There were no major problems reported at polling stations during early voting or on election day last week. Supporters of the law claim that the turnout proved the law was not impeding voters.
But while turnout was up from the constitutional referendum in 2011, it was about the same as the vote in 2009, a little over 1 million voters.
There is also no evidence that counties with a higher percentage of voters without IDs had lower turnout in 2013 because of the law.
A federal judge is setting the schedule for a trial over the law.
