Gov. Rick Perry will undergo minor back surgery on July 1, an aide says.

Perry spokesman Mark Miner said Perry has a "back ailment" and that the surgery has been planned for several months.

Miner said the procedure would not change the governor's schedule.

Perry, the longest serving governor in Texas history, is contemplating a run for the White House in 2012.
