Early Voters Pack North Texas Polls

Voters hit the polls around North Texas to weigh in on state and presidential primary races Friday.

It was the last day of early voting in the state, resulting in huge turnout.

According to Tarrant County Elections Administrator, Frank Phillips, as of early Friday evening, the county was on track to surpass early voting numbers from the 2008 presidential primary.

“Candidates that are in the race are very compelling across the board,” said Dan Richey, who stopped by the polls in Keller to cast his vote.

Hundreds of voters filed into the Allen Municipal Courts Center before doors closed on early voting.

The polling place typically sees the highest voter turnout in Collin County.

As of Thursday evening, these were the totals for the state’s largest counties:

Dallas: 80,889
Tarrant: 90,103
Denton: 41,700
Collin: 67,542

Collin County officials say the amount of early voters has already surpassed the number of people who participated in the entire 2012 presidential election.

Polls around the state closed at 7 p.m. Friday. The next chance to vote will be on the day of the primary election, which is March 1.
