Davis Raises $27M Since Filibuster But Still Lags

Democrat Wendy Davis is keeping pace raising money in the Texas governor's race but begins the final four months until Election Day with far less money to spend than Republican Greg Abbott.

Davis on Tuesday reported raising $27 million since her star-making filibuster in the Texas Capitol last summer over new abortion restrictions. That's already more money than what Democrat Bill White raised against Gov. Rick Perry in 2010.

Abbott has collected $28.1 million over the past year. But the Texas attorney general had been stockpiling money long before then and now has a big edge in cash on hand.

Abbott began July sitting on nearly $36 million -- more than double what Davis reported.

New fundraising totals were due Tuesday to the Texas Ethics Commission.
