Dallas Anti-Trump Rally Draws Crowd

A couple hundred people gathered Monday afternoon outside of Dallas City Hall to rally in what was being called “Un Dia Sin Trump” or A Day Without Trump.

“We organized it because really what’s been baffling everyone is no one has responded to the hate-based message of Donald Trump,” said Carlos Quintanilla, President of organizing group Accion America.

“It’s a call to action, it’s a call to motivate our community to participate, it’s a call to motivate our community to become engaged, to motivate young people to vote, to defend themselves and be proud of who they are, and to believe in themselves, and believe that we are part of America,” Quintanilla said. “We are part of America, we’ve been born here, we pay taxes, we contribute, we create jobs, we employ people, we do many great things for America and the only thing that has come out is negative, negative, negative, negative and we need to change that.”

Donald Trump has drawn criticism from some for recent comments.

He will be in Dallas Monday, Sept. 16 for a rally at the American Airlines center.

On Monday, Trump tweeted, “Both Washington D.C. and DALLAS are turning out to be really big events. D.C. is protest of incompetent Iran deal and Dallas is big speech!”

“We’re going to build the momentum, ask people to come out next week and give Donald Trump the unwelcome,”

NBC 5 reached out to Trump’s campaign Monday, but did not receive a response.
