Cruz Outraises Dewhurst in Latest Reporting Period

Cruz rakes in $1.7 million to Dewhurst's $200,000

Former state Solicitor General Ted Cruz has reported raising $1.7 million between May 10 and the end of June, outpacing Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst by $200,000 over the same period.

The pair face a July 31 runoff election for the Republican nomination to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

The Cruz campaign announced Monday it had received about 52,000 total individual donations and that the average contribution was about $157 each.

Dewhurst released his own statement saying his campaign received $1.5 million in individual contributions between May 10 and June 30, the latest filing period for the Federal Election Commission. Dewhurst also lent his campaign $4.47 million in that span.

In all, Dewhurst has now raised $7.9 million in total, individual donations, compared to about $7.6 million from Cruz.
