Arlington Lawmaker Pushing Car Seat Safety Bill

For the second time, a North Texas lawmaker is trying to get a bill passed requiring-rear facing car seats for young children.

State Rep. Chris Turner, D-Arlington, has filed a bill that says children under two years old must be in car seats facing backwards, unless the child weighs more than 40 pounds or is more than 40-inches tall.

Those are the recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The same bill has also been filed in the Texas Senate, and both chambers must approve the bill for it to go to the governor's desk.

A similar bill failed to get the required votes in the last legislative session in 2015.
