The chairwoman of the Democratic fundraising group Annie's List says executive director Grace Garcia has died in a car accident.
Amber Mostyn said in a statement Tuesday that another Annie's List staffer was in intensive care following the accident Monday afternoon in Waxahachie, about 30 miles south of Dallas.
Garcia worked in the White House under President Bill Clinton and later served as an adviser to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Last year she took over Annie's List, which backs Democratic candidates who support abortion rights.
Among its biggest races this election year has been Wendy Davis' run for Texas governor. Davis said in a statement that the loss creates a void in the landscape of Texas politics "that simply cannot be filled."
