Ann Romney Describes “Shocking” Emergency Landing

Ann Romney said she didn't panic when the plane she was on caught fire Friday, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing in Denver, but noted that the ordeal was "shocking."

The wife of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney described the incident in an interview with Access Hollywood Live that was scheduled to air Wednesday.

"I'm just watching a movie, sitting there, and all of a sudden, you know, the movie goes off and I turn around and it was so shocking, the whole inside of the plane was full of smoke," Ann Romney said. "I turned to everyone, I'm like, 'Oh... That's a problem.'”

She said that the fire was "inside the belly of the plane and down deep in the wiring." She also noted that she was grateful that the plane was over an airport when the incident happened.

She said once the smoke was reported, the pilots started the plane on a quick descent into Denver.

"We were going down fast," she said. "I mean they did say it's gonna feel like we were really going, it's like G-Force going down."

Romney said that despite what seemed like a dire situation, the pilot remained focused until the plane landed.

"He actually wasn't talking to us at all because he was dealing with what he had to be dealing with and there was a stewardess on the plane," she said. "... The thing that was the most shocking to me, I have to tell you, was that we, when we landed I kinda figured we'd taxi off to the corner. We landed, the door flew open, we flew, we got thrown off the airplane, and we were on the runway and the fire engines, you know I think about seven of them, big huge fire engines, all circled the plane and firemen rushed on. Um, but we were on the runway and I kept thinking to myself, 'Well this is Denver and this is a busy airport. We need to like, can we just move it over ... to the shoulder?' "

Access Hollywood Live's Kit Hoover gave her take on Ann Romney's cool demeanor:

“You know why she didn't panic? Mother of five boys, she's like ‘I got this, I'm gonna land this plane!’ Like, you know how it is to, to run that.”

“Right, I know," Ann Romney said. "Mother of five. I've seen it all.”
