Starting Christmas Eve, little boys and girls can track Santa's movements online at NORADSanta.org as he moves around the globe to deliver gifts. Every movement of the jolly man dressed in his famous red suit can be tracked thanks to the North American Aerospace Defense Command, also known as NORAD. Christmas revelers can also keep up with the movements of Santa and his reindeer on Facebook, Twitter, by email (noradtrackssanta@outlook.com), or phone (877-HI-NORAD). There's also an (iPhone or Android) app for that.

NORAD has tracked Santa's whereabouts for more than 50 years. NORAD was developed after Canadian and U.S. governments came together.

This year a controversy erupted when a children's advocacy group complained about fighter jets escorting Santa's sleigh on an animated "trailer" video on NORAD's website, The Associated Press reported. A NORAD spokesman countered that the command has shown jets accompanying Santa since the 1960s.

The program began in 1955 when a typo in a newspaper ad led to children calling the hotline of NORAD's predecessor then asking for Santa, the AP reported. Ret. Col. Harry Shoup was NORAD's first Santa tracker.

Last year's Santa tracker prompted 114,000 calls to NORAD, 1.2 million Facebook followers and 129,000 Twitter followers, according to the AP.
