A Broward, Fla., woman is being held without bond after a nearly four-mile chase across Oakland Park Saturday.
The chase began as a routine traffic stop when a deputy pulled over 31-year-old Maryfe del-Pilar Niño (pictured below) after learning she had several active felony warrants for eluding officers, resisting arrest with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer and several narcotics charges, among others, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
The deputy asked Niño to to step out of her car, but she resisted, the BSO said. Niño's boyfriend, who was in the passenger's side of the car at the time, jumped out when he realized his girlfriend would be putting up a fight, officials said.
Despite the orders, Niño accelerated her Mazda as the deputy tried to restrain her left arm, causing him to fall as the car took off, officials said. Uninjured, the deputy got back in his cruiser and followed her.
Deputies said Niño evaded them for nearly four-miles before the pursuit came to an abrupt end. Niño ran a red light near the intersection of Oakland Park Boulevard and Northwest 31st Avenue, hitting an SUV as she made a left turn, BSO said.
"It was a loud bang," said neighbor Hans Hinrichsen, who heard the crash. "It was like three or four cars involved."
Niño's mangled Mazda jumped the median and ended up on the southbound lanes of Northwest 31st Avenue. The driver of the car Niño slammed into was able to walk away with minor injuries, deputies said.
Niño was taken into custody and she could be heard screaming for water from within the patrol car. Her boyfriend, who is not facing any charges for complying with deputies, was given a ride home. He is being considered a witness in the case.
Meanwhile, Niño faces charges of aggravated battery on an officer, marijuana possession, resisting an officer without violence, fleeing from officers, failing to remain at the site of an accident involving injury, reckless driving and probation violation.
