Majority of Brits Want to Leave EU, New Poll Finds

London's Evening Standard published an Ipsos MORI poll in its Thursday paper that found 53 percent of Brits want to leave the EU

As Britain gears up for a historic referendum next week on the country's membership in the European Union, a new poll shows that public opinion has sharply turned in favor of a "Brexit," according to NBC News.

London's Evening Standard newspaper published an Ipsos MORI poll in its Thursday paper that found 53 percent of Brits want to leave the EU, with 47 percent wanting to remain in the economic and political union.

The British newspaper The Times published a similar poll two days ago with comparable results.

The shift in public opinion toward "Leave" has Prime Minister David Cameron very concerned. The referendum has proven to be very contentious in the British Parliament, with some Conservative MPs speaking out in favor of a "Leave" vote, against Cameron's efforts to keep the country in the EU.
