Florida Boy, 13, Fatally Shot After Cousin Falls Off Hoverboard

Authorities in Florida say an 18-year-old lost his balance on a hoverboard and accidentally shot his 13-year-old cousin in the back of the head Sunday.

The teen, identified as Lavardo Fisher, died Monday night.

Investigators say Fisher was playing video games when the 18-year-old found the unsecured gun, according to NBC affiliate WESH. The gun went off when he fell off the hoverboard, the man told deputies.

An Orange County Sheriff's Office incident report says Fisher wasn't breathing when first responders arrived. He was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando in critical condition.

Deputies say the cousin told deputies he didn't mean to shoot the gun. No charges have been filed.

The gun was owned by 35-year-old Walter Morame. He wasn't at the home when the shooting occurred but was arrested later Sunday on charges of possession of a weapon by a felon. Records don't say whether he's hired a lawyer.

"We want people to be responsible with guns, how they lock them up, because this is a terrible and tragic example of kids playing with guns," Orange County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Jane Watrel said, WESH reported.

The Sherrif's Office told WESH that the teen was the stepson of an Orange County sheriff's deputy.
