Detroit police say a federal judge has been shot outside his home in an apparent attempted robbery.
Assistant Chief Steve Dolunt tells The Detroit News that Judge Terrence G. Berg was shot in the leg Thursday night near the house on the city's west side.
The Associated Press left phone and email messages with Detroit police Thursday night seeking comment.
There was no immediate word on Berg's condition, though police described the injury as not life threatening.
President Barack Obama appointed Berg in 2012. Before that, Berg served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan.
Born in Detroit in 1959, he also was chief of the high tech crime unit in the Michigan Attorney General's Office.
