Death Penalty Sought in Las Vegas Shooting That Killed Oakland Rapper

Las Vegas prosecutors will seek the death penalty for a self-described pimp charged in a shooting and fiery crash that killed three people on the Strip, including an aspiring rapper with Oakland ties.

Ammar Asim Faruq Harris was arrested Feb. 28 in Los Angeles and is jailed in Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Sun reported that the district attorney on Wednesday filed the notice of intent to seek the death penalty after a special panel reviewed the case and recommended that action.

Harris was arrested a week after the pre-dawn crash in which he's accused of shooting out of a black Range Rover into a Maserati sports car, mortally wounding driver Kenneth Wayne Cherry Jr., an Oakland rapper.

The Maserati crashed into a taxi that exploded into flames, killing cab driver Michael Boldon and passenger Sandra Sutton-Wasmund, of Maple Valley, Wash.

Cherry, 27, was an aspiring rap artist who had produced a video using the name Kenny Clutch.

After he was killed, family members said he had moved from the Bay Area to Las Vegas to pursue a music career.

Kenny Clutch's YouTube music video, "Stay Schemin," shows scenes of Las Vegas Strip hotels as he sings about paying $120,000 for his Maserati.

"One mistake change lives all in one night," he rapped in one verse.

Newly obtained video shows what occurred in the minutes before gunfire and a fiery crash claimed three lives in the heart of the Las Vegas strip in February. (see above)

The video shows several encounters between two vehicles, a Maserati and a black Range Rover, which authorities say was driven by suspect Ammar Harris, who was indicted Friday by a Clark County District Court grand jury on charges related to the Feb. 21 incident.

Harris, a self-described pimp,  was later found and

arrested in Los Angeles
