30 Child Pornography Videos Found on Weston Man's Computer: Authorities

A Weston man was arrested after authorities said they found 30 child pornography videos on his laptop.

Carlos Moreno, 55, faces 30 counts of possession of a sexual performance by a child and one count of computer pornography, a Broward Sheriff’s Office probable cause affidavit said.

BSO Det. Nicole Freeley, a member of the South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children task force, began investigating the distribution of child pornography on an undisclosed peer-to-peer file sharing network on Dec. 4, according to the affidavit.

She discovered an IP address that was offering to share child pornography videos on the network between Nov. 27 and Dec. 11, and determined that Moreno was the account holder for that IP address, the affidavit said. During that time period, 70 notable child files were seen being advertised. They contained video images of children under age 14 engaging in various sex acts with other children and adults, according to the affidavit.

A search warrant was served at Moreno’s home early on Wednesday, and Moreno and his family members were interviewed separately, the affidavit said.

Moreno said that he was the sole user of the Acer laptop computer in the downstairs office, the affidavit said. Moreno was the only person in the home who knew the password, and he said that he used a program to download music on the computer, according to the affidavit.

After Moreno was read his Miranda warnings, he said that he wanted to speak with his attorney, the affidavit said. His lawyer was not named in the affidavit.

Authorities said they found 29 child pornography videos in a computer folder that contained the same name as the music program, and one more child pornography video elsewhere on the computer, according to the affidavit.

Moreno is being held on $50,000 bond at the Broward County Main Jail, online jail records showed.
