Wylie Man Arrested for Stomping, Throwing Puppy

The Boxer puppy in Wylie who police say was stomped on and thrown has died.

Police responded to the 600 block of E. Oak Street on May 2 for a reported animal complaint and learned several witnesses saw Andrew Callaway stomping on the puppy named Diesel.

Warrants were secured to seize Diesel and take him to a veterinarian.

Officers arrested Callaway, 27, on Sunday, charging him with cruelty to a non-livestock animal. He was booked into the Collin County Jail.

On May 9, Diesel had surgery to repair the injuries he sustained on May 2.

Despite all efforts to save him, his injuries were too severe and he passed away.

Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be forwarded to the Collin County District Attorney’s Office to seek an indictment against Callaway for cruelty to non-livestock animal-torture, kill or serious bodily injury.

In a post to its Facebook page Wednesday, City of Wylie Animal Control said:

"It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Diesel. Once he came into our care, we gave him a new name for his new life: Spirit. His previous time as Diesel and the ultimate cause of his death is an ongoing investigation by Wylie Police Department. We cannot discuss it at this time, as we do not wish to hinder their efforts and hard work.

"Spirit had the best of care, support and hope from all of the staff here as well as the veterinarians at Parker Road Vet Hospital and their wonderful staff. We wish to thank you for your heartfelt words of encouragement and support. We will forever cherish the time we had with him, and we assure you he felt everyone’s love and care before he left us.

"Soar high, Spirit ... you will forever be in our hearts."
