One Killed in Dallas Wrong-Way Crash

Police said one person has died in a head-on crash following a wrong-way driver's trip down U.S. Highway 75.

Richardson police were following the driver of a silver Nissan Murano who was headed southbound in the northbound lanes of U.S. 75/Central Expressway at about 4 a.m. Monday.

Police said the Murano driver clipped a vehicle traveling northbound in the 9000 block of North Central Expressway and kept going. No one was injured.

A short time later, just north of Hall Street in Dallas, the driver of the Murano crashed head-on into a tan Toyota Camry.

The driver of the Camry died following the collision. The Dallas County medical examiner's office identified the driver as 51-year-old Jose Portillo, of Dallas.

The driver of the Murano survived the crash and is at an area hospital.

Dallas police said the driver of the wrong-way vehicle faces an intoxication manslaughter charge in the case.

All lanes of northbound U.S. 75 were closed as officers investigated the crash but reopened early Monday morning.
