Work Begins to Install Corpus Christi Mural

Dozens of people have helped paint 65 panels that will be part of a colorful big-as-a-building mural in Corpus Christi.

Sandra Gonzalez says she hopes her mural starts a wave of art. Gonzalez expects the first panels of her artwork, "Endless Sunset: The Colors of Our City," to be glued in place Thursday.

Work began this week to install the dozens of 5-foot-square panels on the side of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times building. The scene will include images of flowers, fish and other wildlife -- along with the name: Corpus Christi, Texas.

Gonzalez told the newspaper that about 40 people helped paint the panels. The artwork is expected to debut in August.

Gonzalez says she hopes the participants feel proud of their work and their community.
