Woman Survives Attempted Murder-Suicide

Mentally disabled daughter also in the house, calls for help.

A 48-year-old Denton County woman is in a Dallas hospital after being shot by a family member overnight Saturday, according to the Denton County Sheriff's Dept.

Officers said someone called 911 from a home on the 1300-block of Oakcrest in Providence Village. The person hung up but deputies were dispatched to the address.

Deputies arrived at the house shortly after a second 911 call. They discovered the 48-year-old woman had been shot and a 50-year-old man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Paramedics flew the woman to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.  Her condition is not known.

The woman was in the house at the time of the shooting, but she was not physically injured. The Dallas County Sheriff's Department said that woman is the couple's 23-year-old mentally disabled daughter. She is now with family members.

The Sheriff's office believed the daughter made the second phone call to 911.

Investigators believe the man shot himself after shooting the woman.

The shooting is under investigation, though police said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the shootings.
