Woman Surrenders, Man on the Run After Rolex Watch Theft: DeSoto Police

A woman is in custody and a man is on the run after a brazen smash-and-grab robbery in DeSoto Monday morning.

DeSoto police said two people entered Caves Jewelry Monday at about 11:30 a.m. and stole six Rolex watches worth an estimated $54,000.

As the woman held open the front door, her accomplice walked over to a glass case and shattered the top with a hammer, police said. After grabbing the watches, the pair then ran out of the building and around the corner.

The store's owner, Jerry Caves, pointed a gun at the pair as they ran past him. The woman was startled, tripped and fell over a curb.

"I just told her I had a gun and she needed to stop. I guess I frightened her and she turn back and fell. I walked over to her and asked her to please come back in the store with me and that's what happened," said Caves.

Caves said he confronted the woman about who was with her but she wouldn't tell him.

"I told her I guess he didn't care a lot for her since he just left her there," he said.

Police identified the woman as Haley Washington and charged her with felony theft. Police said she is not being cooperative in the investigation and has refused to reveal the identity of her accomplice.

Caves said in 30 years of owning his store he'd never once had to use his gun, but didn't hesitate to grab it during the robbery.

"I didn't really think a lot about it. This is my property. If I can do something about it, I was going to," Caves explained.

Police are now looking for the man with Washington. They also said they're looking for another man, seen earlier in the store wearing a red t-shirt.

Officers think he was getting a layout of the store before the robbery took place.

Surveillance video from the robbery can be seen above. Anyone with information on the man's identity is asked to call the DeSoto Police Department. Anonymous tips can be sent via text to 847411 using keyword DESOTO or by calling 972-223-6111.
