A man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt shot 36-year-old Maria Martinez at the Sunchase Park Apartments in the 8500 block of Park Lane at about 3 a.m., according to police.

"He came up to the window and he had the gun in her car and he shot," Martinez' 13-year-old daughter said. "It was so fast."

Martinez then drove to a 7-Eleven about a block away where she called for help. The store clerk told NBC 5 that she was bleeding from her left temple when she pulled into the parking lot screaming for help.

Authorities said Martinez was taken to a nearby hospital. Her 13-year-old daughter told NBC 5 that the bullet grazed her head.

Police have not commented on the attacker, but they said the shooting might have stemmed from a robbery attempt.

Dallas police say a 36-year-old woman drove to a gas station after being shot in the head at an apartment complex early Thursday morning.

NBC 5's Jeff Smith contributed to this report.
