Woman Pushed, Mugged Along Preston Road

Woman's purse recovered with nothing inside

Police in Dallas are on the lookout after a 75-year-old woman was mugged along Preston Road on Saturday.

Officials said the woman had just left a store and was unloading her bags when she turned and saw a man trying to steal her purse. She struggled, then the man pushed her, grabbed her bag and ran off.

Dallas police said the purse was later recovered but the belongings inside were missing.

The report is one of 20 different cases in the Preston Road area in which wallets or purses have been stolen. Throughout the last six months, there have been thefts from cars, inside and outside stores and restaurants.

"Basically my purse sits in the cart. We are so comfortable in this Preston Royale shopping area that it's very easy to get complacent," shopper Melissa Cohen said.

In several cases, thieves have targeted women shopping around grocery stores with their purses in their carts. They will turn to get something, or leave the cart unattended for a minute and the crook swipes the wallet in a matter of seconds.

"What I will do is I will take that as a sign and a very nice little wake up call that I need to make sure the purse is on my shoulder and not be so lackadaisical," Cohen said.

Dallas police assigned a detective to the case and are looking for surveillance video.

We asked the manager of the store where the latest victim was shopping, we were told there were no cameras outside the store in the parking lots.
