Woman Found Stolen Phone Thanks to App

A Lewisville woman said a smartphone app helped her locate her stolen phone after someone swiped it from a Dallas grocery store.

"I was really hoping it'd be at the lost and found," said Lauren Moore, of Lewisvile. "That's your data, your pictures, little sentimental moments, it's everything. I keep everything on my phone."

Moore used an app called "Lookout" to track her phone's location to a house near the grocery store.

Moore then enlisted the help of a co-worker who accompanied her to the neighborhood where they called police. With the help of a police officer, Moore

"People had seen the police commotion and had been leaving the house that was kind of suspicious," Moore said.

Using a function on the app that turns on the phone's ringer, Moore was able to find the phone under some nearby bushes.

" I was completely elated and relieved and just dumbfounded," she said. "And the officers were completely blown away. The whole time they were like, 'There's no way you're going to get it back. If you get your phone back you need to go get a lottery ticket.'"

Police said most smartphones that are stolen are rarely recovered.

The person who took the phone was never identified and no arrests were made.
