Woman Found Dead at Colleyville Home

City's first homicide in more than 20 years

Investigators are working to solve the first homicide in Colleyville in at least 20 years.

A woman was found dead Tuesday inside a house in the 500 block of Frontier Court, a tree-lined and secluded cul-de-sac.

The woman is an employee of the homeowners, who were not home when the body was discovered, according to police.

Another employee of the homeowners, a man, called 911 just after 11:30 a.m. to report the crime, police said.

The victim's body showed obvious signs of trauma, but investigators would not elaborate as to a possible cause of death.

"We don't have any indication whether this was a crime of opportunity or whether this was something else," Colleyville Police Chief Mike Holder said. "I do not think that there is cause for concern at this time."

Holder would not say if there appeared to be any signs of forced entry into the home where the body was found or any evidence of a burglary inside.

Because the Colleyville Police Department does not have its own homicide detectives, the FBI and the Texas Rangers have been asked assist in the investigation, according to Holder.

Neighbors who live in the immediate area of the crime scene did not appear to be afraid for their own safety.

"I'm concerned, but honestly I'm more concerned about the creek flooding behind our house than I am about the murders in Colleyville," said Brandi Rowntree, a mother of three, who lives directly across from the house where the body was found.

"This neighborhood is very, very safe. Nobody comes down here unless they live here, pretty much," nearby resident Frank Allen said.

A tow truck removed a red Dodge Avenger, believed to be the victim's car, from the driveway of the home shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The identity of the victim has not been released.
