A Houston-area woman has been charged in the death of her boyfriend's 4-year-old daughter after the girl allegedly was beaten.
Harris County jail records show 32-year-old Elisena Carmona was being held Saturday on charges of murder and injury to a child by omission. Bond was set at $120,000 for Carmona, who was booked Friday.
Sheriff's investigators say Lillian Fortner was dead on arrival Tuesday at a hospital. Autopsy results show the child had a puncture to her small intestine, likely from blunt force trauma, plus other bruises.
Investigators say Carmona initially said the girl fell and hit her head a few days earlier, but later said she had been frustrated with the child and hit her.
Online jail records don't list an attorney for the woman.
